Backing The Audacious: The Launch of Nexus by Carbon

At Prime Startups, we back audacious founders who are building the foundational technologies that will power the next generation of African commerce. One of the standout moments at Lagos Startup Week 2025 was the official launch of Carbon Nexus, a new payment infrastructure product built to simplify and streamline how Nigerian businesses collect, track, and manage payments.

Solving a Foundational Challenge for Growth

For Nigerian businesses, the arduous task of collecting payments, managing staggered invoices, missed alerts, and messy reconciliation often distracts from their core work of earning revenue. This is a pain point we hear consistently from the founders in our network.

Carbon Nexus is the direct, powerful answer to this challenge.

“Too many business owners are still refreshing bank apps and updating spreadsheets just to keep track of who’s paid, With Carbon Nexus, we’re giving them a smarter, simpler way to manage money coming in. No more guesswork, no more stress. This is exactly the kind of scalable solution Prime Startups exists to support.”

Ngozi Dozie, CEO and co-founder of Carbon

Nexus for Builders: Embedding Financial Power

The first version of Nexus is built for the innovators and product teams within our Prime Startups ecosystem. Available via a direct API, it provides the bank-grade infrastructure needed to embed seamless collections into any platform or workflow, featuring the ability to:

  • Instantly generate static or dynamic sub-accounts (NUBANs).
  • Track payments in real time, even for partial or staggered payments.
  • Receive instant webhook notifications upon payment confirmation.
  • Build custom financial flows without the need to navigate core banking rails.

This launch empowers our portfolio of tech companies and fintech builders to accelerate their own product development with robust, frictionless payment capabilities.

The Future is Accessible: Nexus for Every Business

Demonstrating Carbon’s commitment to inclusive growth, a low-code version of Nexus will soon be available within the Carbon Business app. This version, designed for non-technical users, will leverage a conversational AI interface.

Merchants will be able to simply command the system—”Create an account for Gbemi’s next payment” or “Notify me when Obinna pays via POS”—and Nexus will handle the rest, providing real-time updates via SMS, email, or webhook.

“Whether you’re a dev or a distributor, a product manager or a property manager—Nexus meets you where you are,” Dozie added. “It’s smart, flexible, and built for how Nigerian businesses actually operate.”

Why This Launch Matters To Us At Prime Startups

The launch represents a step forward in Nigeria’s journey toward accessible financial infrastructure — a vision that aligns deeply with Prime Startups’ mission to accelerate Africa’s innovation economy by enabling the builders, partners, and products powering the continent’s growth.
